PYRAMIDS, MEMPHIS & SAKKARA
The Pyramids of Giza are the main attraction of Egypt and are home to the only remaining of the Seven Wonder of the Ancient World, the Great Pyramid of Cheops. When you think of Egypt, the first thing that comes to mind is the Pyramids. The tour will begin with the three Pyramids of Giza, which includes the Great Pyramid of Cheops. This 230-meter-high miracle of a Pyramid is just one part of a huge funerary complex. Another essential feature is the Giant Sphinx depicting the head of King Khafre with the body of a lion. Inside the Pyramid are many treasures, chambers, and sarcophagi. Beneath the Pyramid are several secret tunnels that were used in ancient days to move through the monument. We will also stop at a high point to have a panoramic view of the necropolis before going to lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, the excursion will be divided into two parts: first, you will visit the Necropolis of Sakkara, a complex declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. The highlight of this part of the visit is the funerary complex of King Djoser and his Step Pyramid. The latter is the first-ever large scale, stone cut structure built in the world and symbolizes the evolution of the pyramidal construction. Secondly, we will visit the ancient city of Memphis, the first capital of Egypt around 3100 B.C. Here you will learn about the wonders of Mit Rahina, an outdoor museum in which the highlights are the giant statue of Ramses II, carved out of limestone, and the alabaster Sphinx, a majestic sculpture 10 meters’ high which remains intact till this day.
